TOY ADVERTISEMENTS
WARDS,1977
Go for a trip down memory lane with images from the 1977 catalog and other toy company
advertisments!
These were Ward's own version of Ken
and Barbie! They were called "Ward's
Fashion Doll" and "Teenage Boy"! They
came with Ward's exclusive fashions,
which we sometimes see today on Ken and
Barbie!
1977 Sears Catalog
Hasbro advertisment from the 1977 holiday
season, introducing the Kris Monroe Cheryl
Ladd doll.
1970's Advertisment from Remco for the exclusive and now very
rare super hero utility belts!
Kenner 1976 pull out advertisment for the Bionic Woman
doll.
Early Mego advertisement for their Wonder Woman doll.
Notice the dolls and costumes featured are the prototype
versions.
Ideal advertisement for their Super Queen Comic Heroines line
from 1967, featuring DC Comic's Batgirl, Mera, Wonder Woman,
and Supergirl. This doll line was a disaster and discontinued
after one year. They are now very rare and highly collectible!
1978 Mego ad featuring the Wonder Woman doll line, plus an
unproduced playset and Diana Prince "modern" 70's outfits! Some
of the outfits shown were produced in Canada and are very rare.
Kenner Star Wars ad introducing the original line of
action figures from 1977. Who didn't play with these?!?
1979 Mego ad for the Wonder Woman doll. By 1979, Mego was on
a downward streak after infamously rejecting the offer to license
the Star Wars toy line. After a series of flops, Mego began
revamping existing lines wherever they could to save money. By
this time, The Sonny & Cher Show had been cancelled, and the
Mego Cher doll was not selling as well. So Mego reused leftover
Cher doll bodies on Wonder Woman, who was still on TV, and
Farrah Fawcett, who was still popular. And so we get the tanned
(and final) versions of Wonder Woman, shown here, and Farrah
Fawcett!
Interesting ad from a 1979 Sears catalog, featuring an airline
reservations center playset and the Mego Wonder Woman doll!
1977 Cut out ad contest for Mego TV Star dolls
from 16 Magazine! If only we could still enter the
contest!
1975 Mego ad introducing the new Sonny & Cher dolls.
These are both the prototypes. Cher is pretty much the
same as the doll that ended up on store shelves, but
Sonny is drastically different. The prototype has a
completely different head mold with a serious
expression, different shirt, white shoes, and a
pooka-shell necklace! The Sonny Bono doll that was
marketed looks much better, although that necklace
was awfully groovy!
1977 Wards Christmas Catalog page, featuring Ideal's
Suntan Tuesday Taylor, Hasbro's Charlie's Angels dolls,
and Mattel's Donnie & Marie dolls.
